Call with Dr. Nix

I left a post it note with Clayton Thursday afternoon to try and have Jean call. She called me during lunch today and we briefly chatted about accreditation and alumni surveys. She was delighted that I am interested in investigating the processes and policies involved. She agrees somethings needs to be done and will allow me to go after Dwight's approval for particulars.

No current mechanism is in place for collecting BSN alumni data. It was assumed that the Alumni Association was collecting information. However, it was recently discovered that the Alumni Association required a membership fee. Thus, a system is needed for routine data collection and analysis

In regards to the accreditation report, I will have to seek out Dwight's approval to view the document that should be available to faculty very soon. Though the document may not contain relevant data, I would still be interested in glancing through the document to see what our specific goals and expectations are for Standard IV for Alumni and Employer outcomes. By so doing, I can adjust my proposed research to highlight areas of needed improvement at CSUSB Department of Nursing.

Annotated Bib - Employability of New Grad Rns

Employability has been operationalized by Harvey (2005). Though the author’s works applies to college graduates in general, the specific application to nursing graduates provides a framework for investigating recent trends of experienced difficulty acquiring first employment. Previous work experiences and external factors are two concepts that are often overlooked by crowded curriculum demands and other requirements. If explored thoroughly, these two concepts can create a holistic approach for educating students that will be sought after by recruiters and employers.

Theory/Model for Thesis

After stumbling upon the a journal called New Directions for Institutional Research, I found that Lee Harvey has developed the Employability Model. More to follow on the exploration of this model. Please note that a new label called employability has been added.

IRB Rough Draft

Proposed a rough draft for IRB and sent to future committee members. Didn't receive any direct feedback. It was decided to bench IRB proposal until after current coursework to allow for a better study design.
